Waking Up in Vegas

After looking forward to this trip for months, I am finally here!!! This morning I woke up in Vegas baby! And what an amazing place it is. Currently it's 11am (I went to sleep at 6!!) And I should be feeling majorly tired, but due to jet lag and excitement I'm up and ready!

My first obstacle to get past on this trip was the flight out. The night before going I felt all kinds of anxious, My tummy was in knots, I felt hot and flustered and was sure I'd forgotten something. My boyfriend had just gotten back from Ibiza earlier that afternoon and I wanted to spend a nice evening together before I went off. I think this subconsciously made me feel anxious, as I'd missed him and wasn't ready to leave him again. I do believe that since my diagnosis, I've become needy. Not so much towards my boyfriend, but definitely to my parents. Being away from the people I'm close to makes my anxiety worse. I think it's because I start to worry if something happens and I feel bad they won't be there to help - Let's call this separation anxiety! But I know that really I'll be fine, it's just me again worrying for worries sake about something that hasn't happened yet. All my family members kept asking me what's wrong, what are you worried about, but I just couldn't explain. I couldn't even put my finger on the way I was feeling so there's no way I could have made anyone else understand. It was just a mix of emotions. As well, my mouth was in agony. I thought my ulcers would've been getting better, but it seemed to be going the other way. They seemed to be spreading round the back of my throat and causing a lot of pain. I also find that ulcers have that horrid metallic taste. It tasted like I constantly had a cup of blood swilling around in my mouth - grosse! No matter what I ate or drank I couldn't get rid of the taste. My mum was so sweet, she was doing anything to help me. She was packing my stuff, tidying my room and also made me the loveliest dinner to cheer me up. I had had steamed cod, sweet potato mash, kale and carrots. My mum had done it all fancy and lovely, and of course Crohns Friendly!

After I had eaten dinner and finally packed two suitcases (I was going prepared!) I got into bed. The nervousness had mostly gone and I felt very excited. I couldn't believe I was actually waking up in the morning and going off to Vegas!
The alarm went off at 05.30am and I quietly got up so as not to wake my boyfriend, then went down to the kitchen to take my pills, aloe shot and hot water with lemon. My dad got up to help me take my cases down, and the mini bus soon arrived at 6am with 6 of my friends. We were ready to go!! I kissed my parents, boyfriend and dog goodbye then hit the road. I'd made sure I had all the pills I needed on me, as well as a big bottle of water for the car ride. Mum had also made me gluten free chicken and avocado sandwiches incase I got hungry and there wasn't any suitable food at the airport/on the plane (I told you she was a keeper!)

Check in was fine and we were nice and early so didn't have to rush at all in the airport. We'd gone to Frankie and Bennys for some breakfast where I had a fruit salad, green tea and water. Sadly I couldn't join in with the girls having mimosa's :( I felt upset, but I didn't want to risk alcohol before a long flight. My tummy already felt funny so I didn't want to risk pains on a ten hour flight in a confined space! I bought some more water for the flight along with a banana and Woman's Health mag (check me out!) and we soon boarded. It was lovely as we were sat in premium so it felt like our holiday had started and we were all excited for our special trip.

A couple of hours into the flight, they started coming round with lunch menus and I had already selected a gluten free meal when we booked so I could hopefully eat something. Mine came up first, and it was a yummy gluten free pasta chicken dish.... Covered in creamy mushroom sauce - a no no. Sadly I couldn't eat this, but it was again mum to the rescue; I tucked into the sarnies she made me and they were super yum. Throughout the flight, I made sure I kept drinking a lot of water. This was a bit of a pain as it meant I kept needing the loo, but I knew I would feel better for it. My tummy had been feeling funny but I think only due to the air pressure so I was really careful with anything I ate. As much as I would've loved some harribos, it just wasn't worth it.

We got to our hotel in a limo about 4pm and were all amazed. We were staying in The Cosmopolitan and it was perfect. After running the bags up to the room we headed out to the strip and I can honestly say I've never seen anything like it. Vegas is mad!! The people and everything, all mad. But good mad. We had something to eat as we were planning to go to a night pool party so wanted energy. I had a chicken salad with no dressing, and the portion size was unbelievable! It was the biggest salad I've ever eaten, there was no worry of me going hungry. We'd now been up well over 24 hours so thought was a good idea to have a nap before we went out.

The alarm went off at 21.30 and we started getting ready. It felt so weird to be getting ready so late, and to be getting ready in a swimming costume! As it was a night swim, the dress code was swimwear so that's what we wore. Walking through the casino in our swimming costumes and wedges was hilarious!! We quickly jumped in a limo to the Encore beach club before anyone else could stare at us as if we were mental ha.

The pool party was wicked!! It was huge all on big beds outside around a pool with a loud DJ. We had such a good time. I even managed 3 drinks and to stay up till 6am! Given I was completely drunk after 3 drinks, but I had the best time. Vegas is such a buzzy place I think it's impossible to not have a good time. I already can't wait to get out today. In ready for round two!!!

XOXO Crohnie Girl
